Apple Fitness+ Gains Dedicated Awards in iOS 16

iOS 16 now features dedicated awards for Apple Fitness+ workouts, as of the third developer beta.

iPhone Awards Feature2
In iOS 15, activity awards are earned by completing specific challenges, such as hitting a new Move ring record, having a perfect exercise week, or reaching 100 Move goals. The awards can be achieved both with and without Fitness+ workouts, but in ‌iOS 16‌, Apple is offering a new way for users to celebrate their Fitness+ achievements.

The new awards, added in the third developer beta of ‌iOS 16‌, relate to specific Fitness+ workouts and categories and are identifiable by their unique shape.

It is not yet clear how many Fitness+ awards are up for grabs, but MacRumors has seen new awards for completing milestone numbers of Fitness+ workouts, both in terms of total workouts across categories and individual categories, Fitness+ workout streaks, and best workouts for individual categories, as well as awards for the first time a new Fitness+ workout category is completed.

The awards are available retrospectively for completed Fitness+ workouts that have met an award's criteria, but users may not see the new awards on their devices until they complete their next Fitness+ workout.

In addition to the new Fitness+ awards, Apple has also added new standard awards for milestone running distances, starting at five kilometers.

Beyond new activity awards, ‌iOS 16‌ brings the Fitness app to all iPhone users, even if they don't use an Apple Watch, allowing them to set up a daily Move goal and see how their active calories help to close their Move ring.

Thanks, Dominic!

I don't get it, not one bit. Seems like people are being trained to get awards for just about everything now. Playing games like GTA and Red Dead it constantly pops up with little awards for doing some inane thing. Zero value or worth and does nothing for me. I don't get how these can be a motivator for working out or why you care an automated computer system has tracked what you have done and at the preordained time gives you a graphical element that is given to everyone who does the exact same thing, automatically. On the other hand I do get how Peloton and iFit motivate. I use iFit on my excercycle which gets connected to my iPad and monitors my progress, adjusts the resistance to match what the instructor is doing all while giving me a glimpse into some interesting places. Currently following an instructor who is riding around Tuscany for 16 sessions. Videos are pre reordered but you are getting banter and motivational talk from a trained professional. Now I don't care what this trainer thinks, it makes me cringe when they say how they love doing this ride with me and they are so proud of me, but the rest is helpful and motivating. Of course there are awards as well, but like the Apple ones they get completely ignored.
Imagine caring this much about something nobody will force you to like. If you don't like it, no problem there. It is weird to be this passionate about others liking it though.

these awards are a surprising motivator. it's not anything tangible but it feels nice to get one, like something was accomplished.

Love it, including the distinctive '+' shape of these awards.

For me, earning these awards is fun, and a motivator for doing more workouts and therefore getting more fit/healthy.

Paywall awards… yeah…
You expect to get awards for a service you don’t subscribe to? It’s not like I can like/dislike a Netflix show without joining.

I agree. Now if only they could offer like 1% rebates on Apple products and/or services for getting some awards, it wouldn't be a lot, but it would be cool nonetheless !
